The central battle field of the Battle of Donkerhoek, the last conventional pitch batlle of the Anglo-Boer war (1899-1902) is within the perimeter of Kleinfontein.
In addition to the Boer memorial needle, quite a few British memorials are to be seen.
On the hills to the North of te Guest Home, remainders of entrenchments used during the battle are to be found.
There also are historic sites nearby in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit districts.
